Museums

In our contemporary society, art museums should push away from the elitist stature. Museums should be an accommodating and safe space for everyone. The mood of an art museum should be calm and should be a place for people to become inspired and provoke intellectual conversations for all ages. The first thing that comes to mind is the Columbus Museum of Art. There are two exploration galleries in the downstairs section of the museum that have interactive activities that coincide with an art piece. They also have a Wonder Room where viewers are able to explore and touch the art around them. While it may appear to be for children, it is for all age groups and is a good way to experience art for everyone.

An idea of how museums can evoke a calm and safe environment is by the colors of the walls and the architecture of the rooms. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a good example of having amazing rooms that are inviting and have beautiful safe spaces. Each section has captivating wall colors and is designed for the era of artwork. The Philadelphia Museum of Art also has a Japanese garden inside that is extremely calming and a great break from the paintings and drawings. Our environment plays a big part in affecting our mood and art museums should be taking their décor into consideration.
