McLuhan and Today’s Art

McLuhan’s theory on how mediums shape our perspectives on the world is relevant in today’s art of the influence of AI.  AI has been a new development of media that has changed the way art is created. There are many realistic-looking videos and pictures that shape how we see our reality.  The women pictured has been made up by AI. AI creates an unrealistic beauty standard for both men and women.  Photos can be edited to make an individual look a way that society deems “beautiful” without anyone knowing it is not real.

AI allows users to generate images based on their input within minutes. AI takes artists' styles from the internet and copies them. This relates to Benjamin's theory of how art becomes cheap. Taking away the context of the artist’s work and creating something new does not appreciate the aura of the original art piece. With the creation of the new image, there is no telling where or who the style originated from.
