Artworld

Danto would critique Warhol’s work by the tomato can itself. He would state while art is a copy of our world around us, what the difference is between the art piece and the object itself?  Danto would believe there is something striking about there being the physical object of the can in place of the print.

This leads to me to question Warhol’s message of the can. Why did he not just cut a tomato can in half and glue it to a canvas several times to change the dynamic of his piece? I then question the point of drawing or painting still life at all. What experience is an exact replica drawing or painting of an object creating for a view that the object itself would not? Is there a significance of multiple prints of an object just compared to one? Warhol's piece with the reading of Danto has allowed me to critically think about what art is and if it can be defined.
